What are nucleotides which are added to infant milk?

Nucleotides are valuable components of breast milk, and are found there in significant amounts. At least 12 types have been found, the five main ones being: Cystidine, Adenosine, Uridine, Guanosine and Inosine.

It has been shown that:

  • They strengthen infants’ immune systems
  • They have a significant effect on lipid metabolism
  • They improve intestinal flora by enhancing the growth of probiotic Bifidobacterium species. These bifidobacterium are known for their strongly anti-enteropathogenic bacteria action.
  • They help the infant’s system to absorb iron ,as inosine has been proved to have an effect on this process.
