Feeding

Feeding

All other foods should be given to babies with a spoon, and never in a bottle. A bottle might be an easy solution, but it causes problems later on. When babies get used to being fed all their food in a bottle this causes problems later when the mother decides it is time to feed them with a spoon. New foods should only be introduced to babies when they are in good health.

Start off by feeding very small quantities of the food on the edge of the spoon. The important thing is for the infant to become familiar with the new food and for the mother to be patient and to pay attention to how the child reacts. At the beginning you have to be very patient, and to give only small quantities of the food. It might take your baby more than a week to get used to the spoon. Mothers must not be impatient. It is better for the baby to take a long time to start eating the “right” amount of food than for mothers to provoke negative reactions in their babies by being impatient.

Mothers should not have preconceived ideas about how much they think the baby should eat They should take care to ensure that the baby has a varied diet as when he/she grows up he/she will have to learn to eat a variety of foods. To do this, mothers should not favour a particular food. Every food covers a particular dietary need and no food can replace any other, or indeed be replaced by any other food.
