From 18 months

When your child reaches 18 months he/she can now eat by himself/herself and no longer needs others to feed him/her. Give him/her enough time to eat without feeling pressured and, if you can, it is even better to eat with him/her. The best position to eat in is sitting at the table, not lying down or playing. The main meals are now breakfast, lunch and dinner. If possible, he/she should only eat at mealtimes, and not whenever he/she wants. The correct amount of food for a child, is as much as is needed for him/her to eat his/her fill. Neither more nor less. Introduce plenty of fruit and vegetables into his/her diet, and try to avoid foods which are either very sweet or salty.
You should also give him/her water rather than soft drinks or juices.
As a guideline, 50% of his/her food should be carbohydrates, 35% should be fats and 15% proteins. And don’t forget that it is essential for your child to eat a varied diet.
